Kimani Ng'ang'a from Kenya, aged 85, is the world's oldest primary school pupil. Kimani started a primary school in 2004, when the Kenyan government introduced free primary education. He didn't go to school as a child because his family couldn't pay the fees.
A successful student
While in school Kimani was a succussful student, he managed to become head boy of school and abode by the school rules and regulations. The Swahili and Kikuyu languages, and Maths were Kimani's favourite subjects, and he also enjoyed Scinece. He said English was very difficult but he would keep trying. He said he had learnt a lot from the other pupils. 'They teach me games,' he said, 'and I tell them stories of the colonial days.'
It's never too late
Kenya used to be a British colony, and ,in the 1950's, Kimani fought for independence with the Mau Mau rebels. He wanted to learn Maths to count his compensation money, he said. He also wanted to learn to read the bible. 'You never too old to learn,' he told reporters.
It's a record
In 1999, Kimani achieved a place in the Guinness Book of Records as the world's oldest primary school pupil. He has 30 great-grandchildren. Two of them are in the were in the same school as him, but they were in higher years.
Kimani waited a long time for first day at school, but he never gave up and finally he succeeded. He wants to tell world leaders that all children should be eble to go to the school. 'To me, freedoom means going to school and learning,' he told reporters. He became a beacon of hope for many and a symbol of the importance of education.
The First Grader
There is also movie called 'The First Grader'. The First Grader is a 2010 film directed by Justin Chadwick, starring Naomie Harris, Oliver Litondo, and Tony Kgoroge and based on true story of Kimani. The power of an education, even at the most elementary level, provides the theme of this true-life story.
Nowadays, different types of computer have started to come into our lives. One of them is inflatable computer. It sounds really interesting. This computer weighs less than a loaf of bread and if you do not have space in your bag for a regular computer, this is the one which can fit your pocket, but when you inflate it, it's the size of a normal laptop computer.
Portability is an important factor for a computer so this computer can satisfy portabilty and usabilty for everyone who wants to carry their computers easily. It is waterproof too, so now can surf the internet in the swimming pool. One of its many other features which make people wonder is how it feels to hold it. When you inflate it, you feel as if you were touching a balloon.
As a result, if you have such a interesting computer, the only thing you need is a pocket and finding wireless internet. Put your computer in your pocket and enjoy your life to the full.
Personal Helicopter
This personal helicopter will take off and land vertically, like a normal helicopter, and it will be able to fly for over two hours at around 100 km per hour. It has been been available on eBay for several years already.
This simple, practical personal flying machine is big enough to carry two people and small enough to land on the roofs and fly into buildings. However, this interesting device could cause some health problem such as headaches, for it is attached to the person's head.
It would be nice to have one of these , but if we all had one, there would be traffic chaos. There would be people flying in all direcitons, bunping into each other and crashing into buildings. The traffic on our streets is bad enough already- imagine it in three dimensions!
Memory Rocorder
This the prototype of a device to help you remember names. It continually monitors your conversation. When it hears the words 'Nice to meet you', it permanently saves the previous and next 10 seconds of the conversation. Later on, you can't remember the names of the people you have spoken to, you can listen the recording again.
Walking Chair
This is a robot with legs and a seat on top, and it is able to carry people. It can walk along level ground, but it can also go up and down stairs. This prototype has been developed at Waseda University in Japan.
It woud be fantastic for disabled people in wheelcahairs. If they had one of these, they would be able to go to places where they can't go now. They could even go for a walk in the country. I wouldn't mind having one myself actually- it would be great for walking the dog!
Dream Programmer
This is a device designed to help you to choose your own dreams. Before sleeping, you look at a picture of what you want to dream about and record yourself talking about it. During the night, when you start a period of rapid eye movement ( REM) sleep, the machine plays the recording along with music, lights and smells.
If I had one of these, I'd sleep for entartaintment. It would be like gonig to the cinema, but better. However, there's a problem. I never remember my dreams, so wouldn't know if the machine was working.
Brain Keyboard
This is a prototype of a cap designed to read electrical signals from your brain and tranaslate them into commands for a computer. With this cap, you will be able to control your computer without moving any part of your body.
If you had one of these, you'd have to be careful what you think! For example, what would happen if I was writing an email to my friend and I secretly think that she's an idiot? How would happen it begin? 'Hi, you idiot'? I think you 'd have to practise a lot to use this device, but it would probably be good for disabled people.
